Newbury forced to inspect

This afternoon's jumps meeting at Newbury must pass an impromptu 9.30am inspection.

With temperatures having surprisingly plummeted overnight, course officials must now assess conditions later in the day.

A tweet issued by Newbury read: "Temperature unexpectedly dropped to minus 4C overnight. We have called a precautionary inspection at 9.30am."

Daytime temperatures at the Berkshire circuit are forecast to reach a maximum of 5C.

Newbury head of communications Andy Clifton said: "We've covered the take-offs and landings, but it wasn't forecast to get that low overnight.

"The ground temperatures are well above freezing, but we'll get a better idea after dawn."
