Newbury on after third inspection
This afternoon's jumps meeting at Newbury has passed a third inspection and goes ahead as scheduled.
Newbury: Passed a third inspection
With overnight temperatures having unexpectedly plummeted to as low as minus 4C, course officials were forced to assess conditions at 9.30am ahead of the six-race card.
But clerk of the course Richard Osgood and his team were not happy enough to give the fixture the go-ahead and inspected once again at 11am.
That inspection again proved inconclusive, but a third check at 12pm did the trick.
Newbury head of communications Andy Clifton said: "We're going ahead as planned. The jockeys went out on the track and were happy, so we're good to go."
Daytime temperatures at the Berkshire circuit are forecast to reach a maximum of 5C.
The going on the Newbury hurdles track is soft, heavy in places, while the chase circuit is soft, good to soft in places.
