TATTERSALLS IRELAND has announced the appointment of Nicky Bertran de Balanda as its French representative.
De Balanda enjoyed a fruitful career as a dual-purpose trainer based in Maisons-Laffitte, saddling more than 300 winners including dual Grade 1-winning hurdler Gemix.
On the appointment Tattersalls Ireland's managing director Roger Casey said: "Nicky is a very well respected figure within French racing and breeding and has a lifetime of experience in both National Hunt and Flat racing in France.
"We are delighted to have someone with such an impressive background assisting us in raising the profile of Tattersalls Ireland in France. Demand for French National Hunt horses has never been greater and with our expanded portfolio of sales at Cheltenham and Ascot, in addition to our flagship sales at Fairyhouse, the appointment of Nicky could not come at a better time.
"In addition to representing Tattersalls Ireland Nicky will also have a role promoting Tattersalls alongside existing Tattersalls French representative Bertrand Le Metayer."
De Balanda commented: "The opportunity to take on the role as French representative for Tattersalls Ireland was too good to ignore. I have very much enjoyed my time as a trainer and enjoyed some wonderful highlights but I feel that the time is right for a change of direction.
"With a strong presence in both Ireland and England, Tattersalls Ireland has sales to appeal to so many different sectors of the French market and I am very much looking forward to working with the teams at both Tattersalls Ireland and Tattersalls in Newmarket, while also continuing to work with a small number of my own clients."
De Balanda will begin his new role with Tattersalls Ireland on October 3.
