THERE was a sensational climax to the Scoop6 on Saturday as the £279,409 pot, which had not been landed for four weeks, was won by a £2 punter.
Having successfully negotiated the first five legs, which included the 18-runner Challenge Cup at Ascot and the 20-runner Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar, the winning punter's hopes rested on Norwegian raider Easy Road, who grimly clung on in a dramatic finish, in which the judge needed to call for a photo.
While there were celebrations for one gambler, there was despair for another £2 punter who was relying on the unnamed favourite, Sole Power, who could finish only fifth.
Totepool spokesman Matt Hulmes said: "Congratulations to the successful punter. This is what the Scoop6 is all about: winning large amounts of money for a small stake."
The winning punter will add another £80,677 to their haul if they successfully choose the winner of next Saturday's bonus race.
