GERMAN sire Adlerflug delivered a big double on Sunday, supplying the winners of his country's most prestigious all-aged race the Grosser Preis von Baden as well as the Group 3 Prix du Lutece at Saint-Cloud.

Four-year-old Iquitos scored in the Grosser Preis von Baden by nearly three lengths from Nightflower, a daughter of Dylan Thomas who also finished second in last year's renewal.

The Hans-Jürgen Gröschel-trained colt won the Group 2 Grosser Preis der Badischen Wirtschaft at the same course in May, and finished second to Protectionist in the Hansa-Preis and fourth in the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis on his last two starts.

Iquitos was bred by Dr Erika Buhmann and is the first foal out of the winning Areion mare Irika, a sister to the Listed-placed Inanya from a relatively quiet family.

Illampu, a Listed winner at Baden-Baden and Cologne in 1980 and 1982, is the only stakes winner other than Iquitos to appear under Irika's third dam.

Moonshiner, who struck in the 1m7f Prix du Lutece by a length, is trained by Jean-Pierre Carvalho for Georg, Baron von Ullmann, whose late mother Karin bred and owned Adlerfug at the family's Gestüt Schlenderhan.

The three-year-old colt is out of Montezuma, an unraced daughter of late Schlenderhan kingpin stallion Monsun.

The dam is a sister to the Group 2-placed mare Meridia and a half-sister to the dam of Group 2 Diana-Trial winner Meergorl, who is also by Adlerflug.

Further back it is the family of Oaks d'Italia heroine Meridiana.

Adlerflug, a son of In The Wings, struck twice at Group 1 level in the German Derby and Deutschland Preis. He also finished second twice in the Grosser Preis von Baden.

He stands at Gestüt Harzburg at a fee of €5,500 and is also the sire of Group 1 winner Ito, Group 2 scorer Savoir Vivre and the Group 1-placed mare Wunder.
