O’Brien’s Renaissance Prince
The Happy Prince kept on gamely to win the Group Three Renaissance Stakes for Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore at the Curragh.
The Happy Prince leads home Flight Risk
The four-year-old has has been running consistently this season and gained due rewards for his efforts with victory in the Group Three contest.
A runner-up to Breton Rock over seven furlongs at Doncaster last time, he was always prominent under Moore on this drop back to sprinting and his stamina came into play in the closing stages.
The winner edged across to the rail inside the final furlong, forcing the chasing Flight Risk to switch to the outside but neither he, nor closer La Rioja, ever looked like getting on terms with the 11/4 favourite.
The winning margin was three parts of a length with Flight Risk holding British raider La Rioja for minor honours.
It was a first pattern race success for the Rip Van Winkle colt whose trainer said: "He's definitely improving.
"Ryan said he would have no problem going back to five furlongs as he has plenty of speed.
"He's more straightforward and is really enjoying it now."
