GRADE 1 winner Outwork will become the first son of young US sire sensation Uncle Mo to retire to stud when he joins the roster at WinStar Farm in Kentucky next year.

Another new addition to the WinStar roster in 2017 will be Speightster, a Grade 3-winning son of Speightstown.

Outwork, a homebred for Repole Stable, was trained by Todd Pletcher to win the Wood Memorial Stakes at Aqueduct by a head in April and had finished second to Destin in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby in March.

He is from the first crop of sire Uncle Mo, also the sire of champion two-year-old and Kentucky Derby hero Nyquist, Grade 1 Alcibiades Stakes winner Gomo and Grade 2 scorers Laoban and Mokat.

Outwork is out of the Grade 1-placed Empire Maker mare Nonna Mia, a three-parts sister to Grade 2 winner Cairo Prince.

The Bill Mott-trained Speightster was unbeaten in his first three starts – a seven-length debut win at Keeneland, an impressive victory in a Belmont allowance race and a defeat of Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Texas Red in the Grade 3 Dwyer Stakes.

Speightster is a WinStar homebred out of an unraced Danzig sister to Breeders' Cup Distaff heroine Dance Smartly and half-sister to former North American champion sire Smart Strike.

WinStar president and CEO Elliott Walden said: "Outwork and Speightster are as close to Uncle Mo and Speightstown as you will find when you look at the combination of their overall quality, physical traits, and racing traits in relation to their sires.

"Speightstown is emerging as a sire of sires, and Speightster is closely related to Smart Strike and bred just like him. Most would expect Uncle Mo to have successful sons at stud, and Outwork looks like a carbon copy.

"So these are two very exciting new stallion prospects that will have the full support of some of the top breeders in the world, including WinStar and our partners Mike Repole and Woodford Thoroughbreds on Outwork.

"Both horses also figure to be priced in the market to be accessible for a wide range of breeders."
