Persuasive in line for Sun Chariot

Persuasive may get another shot at Group One glory in the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket next month.

Persuasive: Sun Chariot possible

Successful on her only juvenile start at Kempton, John Gosden's filly made a successful reappearance in a Goodwood handicap in May and has made rapid progress since.

A win at Chelmsford was followed by Royal Ascot success in the Sandringham Handicap and she comfortably graduated to Pattern class in Group Three Atalanta Stakes at Sandown.

The Cheveley Park-owned grey tested her powers at the top table in Saturday's Matron Stakes at Leopardstown and proved up to that level by finishing second to Aidan O'Brien's Alice Springs.

"She was really game and I thought Frankie (Dettori) rode her perfectly," said Cheveley Park's managing director Chris Richardson.

"It looked like it was all falling into place, but she got caught by a very good filly.

"She ran a very good race and I hope she'll keep progressing.

"We'll look at the Sun Chariot and go from there."

Richardson also reacted to the surprise success of the Roger Varian-trained Spangled in the Group Three Sceptre Stakes at Doncaster on Friday.

He said: "It was a pleasant surprise to see her win. We were hoping she might get a place, but we didn't really expect her to come out on top.

"We didn't enter her for the Sun Chariot, but she's come out of it well and we'll just have to sit down and review things.

"She wouldn't want the ground too soft and we'll have to decide whether she'll stay in training next year or not."
