Phijee wins the Horn Blower

Phijee continued his progression when winning the William Hill Ripon Horn Blower Conditions Stakes.

Willie Muir: Trainer of Phijee.

Just touched off on debut, he made no mistake at Carlisle next time out and took his tally to two wins from three runs.

Caught on the outside throughout, Sam Hitchcott always looked relatively comfortable, despite his mount not looking totally at home on the uneven track.

His only rival inside the final furlong was Madam Dancealot, but the 11/4 favourite got on top by a neck close home to score by a neck.

Hitchcott said: "It's the first time he's had a real race and he's still immature.

"He's got a lot to learn still and he'll come on again.

"I don't think the track was ideal and he had no cover so he's done well to win."
