YEARLING sales taking place in Ireland later this year will allow purchasers to test lots for piroplasmosis for the first time.
This facility has previously been available in Britain, and after discussion between Goffs, Tattersalls Ireland, the ITBA and the Department of Agriculture the decision was taken to introduce the test at Irish sales grounds.
This should allow purchasers to buy with added confidence, particularly those from overseas and whose objective is a secondary sale at a later stage.
Trainer Ger Lyons commented: “This is something that I been requesting for some time and I’m delighted that it has been made available. It can only be of benefit to everybody concerned.”
The testing for piroplasmosis can be requested when signing the acknowledgement of purchase at both auction houses.
