TRAINER Henry de Bromhead is aiming leading Racing Post Arkle contender Identity Thief at the Grade 2 Craddockstown Novice Chase at Punchestown later this month, a race he has won with the likes of Sizing Europe in the past.

A Grade 1 winner over hurdles, Identity Thief impressed on his chasing debut over 2m at Punchestown last month with bookmakers making him an 8-1 shot for success at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Should he triumph in the Craddockstown Novice Chase, Identity Thief would be emulating Sizing Europe, Days Hotel and Sizing John, who all raced to a high level for De Bromhead.

The trainer said: "We've got a couple of options for Identity Thief but at the moment we are heading towards the Craddockstown Novice Chase.

"We've had a bit of success in the race over the years and it's a very suitable race that fits into the calendar well if you win a beginners chase in October as we did with this horse."

Impressive start

Identity Thief landed the Fighting Fifth Hurdle last season as well as finishing second in the Ryanair Hurdle at Leopardstown and the Punchestown Champion Hurdle.

He has since looked a natural over fences, and De Bromhead added: "Identity Thief is in in really good form and we were delighted with his run at Punchestown the last day. He jumped really well and put up a lovely performance so we're very happy with him at the moment."
