Rajasinghe has Newmarket aim

Rajasinghe is in the frame for Newmarket

Royal Ascot hero Rajasinghe could make a swifter-than-expected return to action in the Arqana July Stakes at Newmarket.

The Choisir colt won as he liked on his racecourse debut at Newcastle in May and took the step up in class within his stride in the Coventry Stakes.

Trainer Richard Spencer initially suggested Rajasinghe could wait for the Prix Morny at Deauville on August 20, but he is now considering turning him out under a penalty in the Group Two on Thursday week.

The Newmarket handler said: "We'll see how the week progresses, but he's potentially going to run in the July Stakes.

"Nothing is set in stone. He'll get an entry on Friday and we'll see how he is over the next 10 days or so.

"If we didn't run at Newmarket we'd either have to wait for Deauville or run at Goodwood with a penalty.

"If he does go to Newmarket next week, that still gives us a bit of time before possibly going to Deauville for the Group One."
