LUCIA VALENTINA, a triple Group 1 winner in Australia, has been retired after suffering a leg injury and will be covered by Fastnet Rock
 at Coolmore Australia this month.

The six-year-old daughter of Savabeel was a NZ$60,000 purchase by Bruce Perry Bloodstock at the NZB Premier Yearling Sale and went on to earn more than A$4 million in prize-money.

She was trained by Kris Lees for Lib Petagna to win the Vinery Stud Stakes at three, the Turnbull Stakes at four and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes – in which she took the scalp of The United States – at five.

Lucia Valentina is a half-sister to New Zealand Group 3 winner Best Show out of a Montjeu half-sister to Group 2 scorer Silky Red Boxer.

Lees said of the retirement: "Obviously it's very disappointing but that's racing. Lucia Valentina has been a wonderful mare to us.

"While the injury is serious enough not to race her again, it won't affect her career at stud."
