Rules denied by Twilight Payment
Forgotten Rules made an encouraging return to action at the Curragh despite losing out to Twilight Payment in the Sycamore Lodge Equine Hospital Loughbrown Stakes.
Forgotten Rules made a pleasing return to action
Dermot Weld's six-year-old had not been sighted on the racecourse since finishing down the field in the Long Distance Cup on British Champions Day last October.
That Ascot contest is his objective once again and the son of Nayef will have delighted trainer Dermot Weld despite missing out by half a length in the Listed contest.
Held-up towards the rear by Pat Smullen as stablemate Look Closer helped to cut out the early fractions, Forgotten Rules moved ominously into contention with his rivals all hard at work.
Smullen still hadn't asked his mount for an effort as he ghosted into the lead but his lack of race-fitness began to tell in the energy sapping conditions in the closing stages of the two mile contest.
When push came to shove, Forgotten Rules couldn't match the finishing effort of Twilight Payment on whom Kevin Manning had been hard at work for much of the final two furlongs but his efforts were rewarded as Jim Bolger's progressive youngster gained a first pattern race success.
Toe The Line finished four and a half lengths adrift in third.
