Russell relishing Walters link
Davy Russell is looking forward to riding in Britain on a more regular basis this winter.
Davy Russell: Linking up with Dai Walters next season
The dual Irish champion jockey's trips across the Irish Sea will be more frequent following last week's announcement he had reached a "gentleman's agreement" with prominent Welsh owner Dai Walters to ride his horses when available.
Russell also hopes to continue his association with northern-based trainer Nicky Richards after admitting opportunities at home had become harder to come by since losing his job as retained rider for leading owners Gigginstown House Stud a couple of years ago.
"It's something to look forward to. Dai has been in the industry a long time and has invested a lot of money in it," Russell told At The Races.
"He has the habit of coming across a nice horse and I'd love to be associated with a nice horse. That's what we're all looking for.
"Hopefully Nicky (Richards) will have a few horses for me to ride as well, we'll try to combine the two.
"I have my connections in Ireland, but the way the industry is going, it's very much owner orientated and it's tight here at the moment.
"Obviously the second and third strings of Gigginstown's are very useful horses. It would be nice to keep all the connections happy, I know it might be hard, but we'll try."
