Russell storms off course after getting 17-day ban
Davy Russell stormed off the course at Clonmel on Thursday and refused to take his final two mounts of the day after receiving a 17-day ban from the stewards.
The rider had emerged victorious aboard Little Folke on her jumping debut in the Kilmore Maiden Hurdle, only to lose the race in a resulting inquiry.
The 9-2 co-favourite had dug deep when pressed close home by Solar Heat and Russellstown, but Russell was ruled to have struck Solar Heat three times with his whip in the closing stages and the placings were reversed.
Russell was given three days for improper riding, but was hit with an additional 14 days for his conduct to the officials.
The rider left the racecourse without taking up his final two mounts of the day, a move that was referred to the Turf Club for further investigation.
