Ryan Moore: My thoughts on Peace Envoy in the French 2,000 Guineas on Sunday
French 2,000 Guineas
A lot of people would have expected me to ride Orderofthegarter here after his two impressive recent wins, but I have never ridden the horse before – Seamie rode him to win in really good style at Leopardstown last time – so I was happy to be guided by Aidan.
This looks to be a pretty strong renewal of the Classic. A lot of the big, home stables are represented by unexposed recent winners – the likes of Brametot and Inns Of Court – and the English and Irish have a pretty strong hand too, not least with Racing Trophy winner and Craven runner-up Rivet.
I am on what will probably be one of the outsiders in Peace Envoy, but he has each-way chances at his best. He was a very smart juvenile, when his best effort came in a length third to Lady Aurelia in the Morny here, and he clearly didn't get the run of the race when fourth on his comeback over 7f at Naas a fortnight ago.
But at least that run would have sharpened him up, and he has chances if seeing out the trip at his first attempt at a mile from his midfield draw.
