CRAZY HORSE, making his first appearance since finishing a creditable sixth behind The Gurkha in the French 2,000 Guineas in May, got the better of a short battle with Estidhkaar, who had been off the track since August of last year, to win an intriguing, high-quality conditions race.

Estidhkaar and Kool Kompany, who was making his first start since returning to Richard Hannon after an unsuccessful stint in Australia, had both won at Group 2 level, while Crazy Horse had a Group 3 win to his name.

The trio all had absences of over 100 days to defy but a lack of race fitness proved no barrier to success for John Gosden's Crazy Horse, who travelled strongly under Robert Havlin and readily brushed aside the renewed challenge of the brave Estidhkaar to strike by three-quarters of a length.

"He has always had a lot of talent," said Havlin. "He travelled nicely and if anything I got there too soon as he was just pulling up with me in front – when he won the Horris Hill last year he got there on the line."

Conditions at Salisbury were on the easy side, which proved to be in the favour of the winner.

"He has had little niggles and this is his ground – he did his winning September and October last year – so he has been minded through the summer when the ground has been firmer," Havlin added.

Absolutely So, who was sent off as the 15-8 market leader on the back of a good effort in the Ayr Gold Cup, could make little impression and finished three and three-quarters of a length back in third, while Kool Kompany was not disgraced on his return in fourth.
