LAST weekend Tony Dainty became the latest small-staking Scoop6 punter to win big, and he goes in search of additional riches on Saturday when chasing the bonus fund.
Having been unable to source any tickets to watch his beloved Sheffield United against Fleetwood Town, Dainty settled in for an afternoon watching the racing on TV.
As his permutation proved to be the only winning ticket, Dainty, 49, gave his wife Irene cause for concern when Easy Road won at Ascot, but her worries over his health were unfounded as he had just turned £2 into £279,408.
"I didn't say anything to anyone at first," Dainty said. "Irene was in the attic, and she was making Christmas cards.
"Then the sixth horse came in. I shouted: "Irene!" and she said: "I don't like the sound of that." She thought something was wrong like I'd had a heart attack of something."
Kebab and prosecco celebrations
Unable to sit still and await confirmation of his life-changing fortune, Dainty occupied his time by taking their dog, Max, for a walk. Upon his return he found that he was now significantly richer than at the start of the afternoon.
Celebrations that evening were low-key, as Dainty added: "I asked Irene how she'd like to celebrate and she said: "We can go and watch the dogs at Owlerton and have a meal, but I couldn't get a table so we ended up with a kebab and some Prosecco at home. It was surreal."
If Dainty can unravel the 34-runner Betfred Cesarewitch, an extra £80,677 will be his via the bonus fund, which could further bolster the fund for a new house, which is top of the wishlist.
Any decision on his Cesarewitch choice will not be taken until the morning of the race, as Dainty, who will be at Newmarket with Irene, said: "I'll study the form in the morning and see where the money's going before I make my final selection. Whatever happens, it will be a great day out and we'll enjoy every second of it!"
This week's Scoop6 is split equally between racing at Newmarket and York, with the Cesarewitch the final leg.
The win fund starts at £32,270, but Betfred boss Fred Done is offering a £150,000 bonus to a single winner who places their bet in a Betfred shop, through the website or on mobile, on totesport.com or on mobile and finally at the races with totepool.
