Shamreen is World beater

Shamreen made every yard to see off Best In The World in the Moyglare 'Jewels' Blandford Stakes at the Curragh on Irish Champions Weekend.

Pat Smullen gave Shamreen a positive ride

Dermot Weld's filly finished some way adrift of the runner-up and 5/4 favourite in a Group Three at Cork last time but reversed the form under a positive ride.

Pat Smullen set out to make every yard aboard the daughter of Dubawi but was joined a furlong out by Best In The World.

Ryan Moore had had to work quite hard to get into a challenging position though and it soon became clear that Smullen had saved something up his sleeve as Shamreen rallied to claim the Group Two by half a length.

They finished clear of Santa Monica in third.
