CHAMPION HURDLE hopeful Apple's Jade lost on her first start for Gordon Elliott as she failed to repel the challenge of Rashaan, who sprung a 10-1 surprise.

Viewed by many as the jewel among the 60 Gigginstown horses removed from the yard of Willie Mullins, Apple's Jade had been a general 8-1 chance for the Champion Hurdle but has now more than doubled in price.

She can be backed at 20-1 with Betfair to win the Champion Hurdle following this surprise defeat.

Sent off as the 1-2 favourite having been as short as 1-3 earlier in the day, Apple's Jade held every chance after cutting out the running, but she could not match Rashaan's turn of foot and appeared to have no excuses as she was beaten by one and a half lengths.
