Simonsig to return on Sunday

Simonsig remains on course to make his seasonal reappearance in the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham on Sunday.

Simonsig: Ready to return to the scene of his greatest glory at Cheltenham.

The flying grey was sidelined for over two and a half years after winning the 2013 Arkle Trophy at Prestbury Park, but showed he retained plenty of ability by chasing home stablemate Bob's Worth over hurdles at Aintree before finishing an excellent third in the Boylesports Champion Chase.

He was subsequently well-beaten in a Grade Two hurdle race in France, but is reported to be in fine fettle ahead of his reappearance in a Grade Two event trainer Nicky Henderson won with the great Sprinter Sacre 12 months ago.

Henderson said: "He is set for the Shloer. He has had a good preparation for once.

"If he gets through this week without a hiccup, in his book it would be a very good week."

Simonsig is one of 12 entries for the two-mile contest.

His potential rivals include Fox Norton, who recently joined Colin Tizzard from Neil Mulholland's stable, Kerry Lee's Top Gamble, and Henry de Bromhead's possible Irish raider Special Tiara.
