Six places for Melbourne Cup punters
Bookmakers Sky Bet have stolen an early march in the battle for business on Tuesday's Emirates Melbourne Cup by offering six places to each-way punters.
Frankie Dettori and Wicklow Brave team up again.
The Leeds-based layers are making the industry-making offer to all bets placed after noon on Saturday October 29, now that the draw and final field for the 24-runner contest has been finalised.
A number of the field have European connections, including leading fancies such as Michael Bell's Big Orange, the Willie Mullins-trained Irish Leger winner Wicklow Brave, the mount again of Frankie Dettori, and Godolphin's raiders Qewy, Secret Number and Beautiful Romance.
With an ever-growing amount of European interest in the race that stops a nation, Sky Bet hope that offering six places to each-way punters will encourage betting activity ahead of the race, which takes place at 0500(BST) on Tuesday.
Spokesman Michael Shinners said: "Sky Bet want to stand out from the crowd to racing punters and with every other firm offering only four places as things stand, we hope this offer will attract attention, especially with so many of the runners being familiar to British and Irish punters.
"We'll also be running a free £10,000 Predict Six competition on Sky Bet and Sporting Life to help ensure some extra excitement for at least of one our customers."
