Slattery targets Group One success with Galway duo
Andrew Slattery could strike a blow for the smaller trainer by launching a two-pronged attack on the Group One Coolmore Fastnet Rock Matron Stakes at Leopardstrown next month.
The Thurles handler gave entries in the one-mile feature to Creggs Pipes and Planchart and both staked claims to be in the line-up by winning at the Galway Races last week.
"They are both in good form and have come out of their races very well," said Slattery.
"It would be great for a small stable like ours to have two runners in a Group One. We've paid the entry fee, so we might as well take our chance."
Creggs Pipes has been a revelation this term and took her winning run to four when landing the highly-competitive Colm Quinn BMW Mile Handicap.
"She's in great nick and is thriving the whole time. She could have the run next day, she just loves it," said Slattery.
"She's in the Matron and she might run in the Ruby Stakes in Killarney on 17 August if she's going to go somewhere in between. We'll just see how she is."
Planchart, who won the Listed Corrib Hill Stakes at Ballybrit last week, could head to the Curragh first for the Snow Fairy Stakes on 28 August.
"She's going to the Curragh for the Group Three over nine furlongs.
"She's a nice filly, she's going forward. We like her too.
"She might take her chance in the Matron as well."
