Smart win from Nameitwhatyoulike
Bryan Smart landed his third Listed race in the last eight days as Nameitwhatyoulike made every yard of the running in the Betfred Garrowby Stakes at York.
Bryan Smart: Won with Nameitwhatyoulike
As soon as market leader Danzeno missed the break by three lengths he had a mountain to climb, with Connor Beasley kicking the Great St Wilfrid winner into an early lead.
While Danzeno did loom up looking a threat a furlong out, Nameitwhatyoulike (9-2) – in the form of his life at the age of seven – went on again to win by a length and a half from the even-money favourite.
Hot on the heels of similar successes for Alpha Delphini and Alicante Dawn, Smart has enjoyed his best summer for years.
"He's a dream to train, he trains himself really," said Smart.
"In the past when he's gone to Ayr it has always been at the end of a busy season, but he's much fresher this year, that was only his fourth run.
"However, he'll have a penalty now so I might just look at sending him to France for a Group Three as he loves soft ground.
"I know the favourite missed the break but Connor said he felt better than he ever has done today."
He added: "After the last few days I think I'll wake up tomorrow!"
