Snow storm puts Uttoxeter meeting back in danger

SATURDAY'S meeting at Uttoxeter was given the green light after the course passed a 7.30am inspection, but a snow storm has forced officials to call a second inspection at 10am.

"We're not in as good a position 7.30," said clerk of the course Charlie Moore. "We're starting to get sleet and it's still snowing slightly.

"But it's the snow that fell between 7.30 and 8.20 that's causing me the biggest headache as it's getting very wet on top of the fleeces and a high percentage of the course is still covered.

"Our team is out there doing their best and we will be in a position to let people know more at 10am."

The seven-race card, which is due to start at 1.10pm, would take place on ground officially described as heavy.
