Sobetsu sparkles for Godolphin
Sobetsu ran out a ready winner of The Gurkha Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary at Deauville after showing a decisive turn of foot.
The Godolphin-owned filly could not be caught as she stormed clear two furlongs from home.
William Buick tracked the pace-setting Estelle Ma Belle before asking Charlie Appleby's charge to go and win the race early in the straight.
Vue Fantastique was second, with the John Gosden-trained Coronet coming from well back to get up for third place in the Group One contest, which was a rough affair at time.
Sobetsu – bouncing right back to her best having finished a well-beaten fifth to Rhododendron in the Fillies' Mile at Newmarket in October – was cut to 16-1 from 33s for the Investec Oaks at Epsom with Betfair. While not afraid to go another two furlongs with the daughter of Dubawi in the Oaks, Appleby is mindful of her need for sufficiently soft ground and she could return to France for the Prix de Diane. He said: "We've always held her in high regard and she wintered particularly well."I would be confident she'd get a mile and a half, but the key to her is this ground and the ground really suited her."She has lots of options, but she could come back here for the French Oaks."Gosden, meanwhile, will aim suitably high with the Frankie Dettori-ridden Coronet. He said: "She ran great and finished very strongly."I think she'll be fine over a mile and a half and we'll now think about the Ribblesdale or an Oaks."
