Solow future plans unclear

Solow enjoys a pick of grass at his Chantilly stables.

The long-absent Solow has been ruled out of a return to Royal Ascot next month with trainer Freddy Head still not happy with his brilliant miler.

The seven-year-old enjoyed a spectacular campaign in 2015, claiming Group One victories in the Dubai Turf at Meydan, Prix d'Ispahan at Longchamp, Queen Anne at Royal Ascot, Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and the QEII back at Ascot on Champions Day.

However, he made just one appearance last season, winning a minor conditions event on the Polytrack at Chantilly in early March, and has not been seen since.

Head said: "His progress is slow. He's not that well and we have had a few problems.

"He's not going to be running in the near future and he won't be going to Ascot.

"I think it will be the backend – maybe September or October – before he runs and he's such a lovely horse, I don't want to take any risks with him.

"If I'm not 100 per cent happy with him, he won't run."
