Some Plan flourishes at Naas

Some Plan got his season back on track with a comprehensive success in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Novice Chase at Naas.

Some Plan: Naas winner

Formerly trained by Tom George and Paul Nicholls in Britain, the nine-year-old joined Henry de Bromhead prior to the start of this season and made an impressive start to his chasing career at Punchestown in October.

He was still in contention when falling two fences from the finish in an Arkle trial at Cheltenham in November, but was a 7-1 outsider of four for his latest assignment.

David Mullins positioned Some Plan prominently from the off, with 8-15 favourite American Tom racing alongside.

Some Plan went into a clear lead after American Tom fluffed his lines at the fourth fence, after which the market leader weakened and looked well-beaten when taking a crashing fall four fences from the finish. Both horse and jockey Ruby Walsh were quickly on their feet.

Some Plan, meanwhile, continued on his way up front and while Road To Respect briefly threatened to make a race of it on the run to the final obstacle, De Bromhead's charge stayed on well to prevail by five and a half lengths.

Stone Hard was last of the three finishers.

"My lad travelled well the whole way. He ran into the first a bit, he's so accurate and so quick he forgets to get enough height sometimes," said Mullins of the winner.

"When he puts it all together he could be a Cheltenham horse. I definitely thought I had another gear the last day. I'd say the winner, Le Prezien, did as well, but I was going every bit as well as him and I'd say I had plenty down the hill.

"That was another day though and he's done it well today. You can't fault him and he deserves it.

"He's still a big baby for an old horse and when he does start to learn, and put his best foot forward over fences, he'll take a fair bit of beating over two miles."
