DUAL Group 1 heroine Speedy Boarding will have an illustrious first date for her broodmare career as she is set to visit Darley flagbearer Dubawi in 2017.
The four-year-old daughter of Shamardal, owned and bred by Meon Valley Stud out of the Listed-winning Diktat mare Dash To The Front, was retired from racing after finishing second to Journey in last Saturday's Group 1 Qipco British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes at Ascot.
She struck at the highest level in the Prix Jean Romanet and the Prix de l'Opera for trainer James Fanshawe. During her 12-race career she also landed the Listed Ballymacoll Stud Stakes and the Group 2 Prix Corrida.
Speedy Boarding is the second winner of the Prix de l'Opera to carry the Weinfelds' famous black silks with white spots to victory in the race after Zee Zee Top won the race back in 2003.
She will now head back to her birthplace of Meon Valley Stud in Hampshire before travelling to Dalham Hall Stud to be covered by Dubawi next year.
Mark Weinfeld, part-owner and stud manager, said: "We're delighted she's joining the broodmare band. Speedy Boarding has won two Group 1s and this was her year really.
"We thought Jazzi Top might be the one to give us a Group 1 but she got injured and Speedy Boarding stepped up and got the job done well."
Of the mating, he added: "I thought it looked good on paper and will suit her physically as well.
"If you go to Dubawi you have to send a good mare to him and she's as probably as good as we've got and is very current at the moment. There have been a couple of good Dubawis out of Shamardal mares and he's a stallion who we've had a bit of luck with in the past."
