ALICE SPRINGS registered her third Group 1 success of the season when getting the better of a good tussle with Always Smile to win the Sun Chariot.

Alice Springs had produced a jet-propelled finish to win the Matron Stakes by three and a quarter lengths at Leopardstown last month and another wide-margin victory looked on the cards when she moved powerfully under Ryan Moore to take a share of the lead on the approach to the final furlong.

However, Always Smile knuckled down well and made the Aidan O'Brien-trained filly work hard to register her three-quarter length success.

Ervedya ran creditably to finish third a length behind the principals.

Taking racing well

Alice Springs, who made her first start of the season in April, was having her eighth race of the campaign but is clearly taking her racing well.

In addition to registering three Group 1 wins, Alice Springs has also finished placed in the 1,000 Guineas and the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
