Stars sights set on Newbury

Across The Stars

After being forced to miss the Jockey Club Stakes on Saturday, Across The Stars now has the Al Rayyan Stakes at Newbury on May 20 as a target.

A Royal Ascot winner last June when lifting the King Edward VII Stakes for Sir Michael Stoute, he has only had one subsequent run when third in the Great Voltigeur.

He was a late defector at the weekend with a bruised foot and now the Group Three event, registered as the Aston Park Stakes, is on his agenda.

"It was nothing too serious and we're hoping he'll be ready for Newbury and the Aston Park," said Bruce Raymond, racing manager to owner Saeed Suhail.

"He had the problem with his foot and then the day after spiked a temperature, but now he's perfectly fine.

"It was just a case of unfortunate timing, but Sir Michael is hoping he'll be fine for Newbury.

"He was pretty fit, he hasn't missed much so that is where we are looking."
