Sunset eclipses Aux Ptits Soins

Long odds-on favourite Aux Ptits Soins was turned over on his chasing debut at Exeter by Drumlee Sunset.

Drumlee Sunset ridden by Richard Johnson jumps the last to win at Exeter

Winner of the 2015 Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival on his first outing for Paul Nicholls, a series of minor niggles kept him off the track until last season's World Hurdle.

Regarded as one of NIcholls' brightest prospects in the novice ranks, he was sent off at 2/7 for the RGB Building Supplies Novices' Chase under Nick Scholfield.

There were a few sketchy leaps early on from the favourite but nothing to set the alarm bells ringing, however, he could never quite get on terms with Philip Hobbs' charge.

Scholfield asked his mount to close rounding the home turn but Richard Johnson always looked to be holding a bit up his sleeve and while he hung over the final couple of fences, the 5/2 chance won by two and a quarter lengths.
