DOUBLE: Taneen and Contrapposto.

Taneen has seen only limited action so far this term but is one to follow as he returns from a lengthy lay off in the ebfstallions.com Conditions Stakes at Kempton.

Winner of one of his two maiden outings as a juvenile, Taneen was pitched into Listed company on his return this term with Roger Varian opting to take a leap in class for the Carnarvon Stakes at Newbury.

He was a well-beaten sixth on that occasion so it was no surprise to see Taneen switched back to handicap level next time out, when he promptly ran out a comfortable winner at Leicester to prompt a steep 12lb rise in the ratings.

That hike put him on to a mark of 101 which somewhat limits Varian's options with Taneen and it was little surprise to see him flounder a little off his revised pitch at Newmarket in July.

However, that race has worked out pretty well with winner Dancing Star going on to win the Stewards' Cup while second-placed Priceless has since won at Listed level.

Taneen has been given a break since that run and given the distinctly American flavour to his pedigree, it appears to make good sense to try the all-weather and the conditions of the race give him every chance of a glorious return.

All eyes are likely to be on Contrapposto as he tackes the EBF Stallions Oath Maiden Stakes at Nottingham.

David Menuisier's charge did not appear to be anything special when fifth at odds of 50-1 on his debut but his next run at York underlined his potential as he was beaten three and a quarter lengths by Rivet.

That one has since gone on to win the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster and is among the leading lights in Saturday's Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket, so Contrapposto's stock certainly rises in light of those facts.

The third, fourth, fifth, eighth and 10th have all come out and won subsequently, giving the form real substance and making Contrapposto's Racing Post Trophy entry a lot more credible.

If Contrapposto is to fulfil that Group One date, he really should be winning here.

Viking Hoard made it third-time lucky in maiden company last month and Harry Dunlop is now obviously keen to make use of his mark of 81 in the Breeders Backing Racing EBF Nursery Handicap.

The Vale Of York colt had the favourite a length back in second when winning at Salisbury at odds of 16-1, appearing to thrive over the mile trip as he stayed on strongly at the finish.

The decision to move up to nine furlongs looks pretty logical based on that success and it will be disappointing if Viking Hoard, who can really come into his own next year, cannot make his presence felt.

Dreamfield is one to watch in the first division of the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes.

A son of Oasis Dream out of dual Group One winner Izzi Top, Dreamfield cost 1.1 million guineas at Tattersalls last autumn and should really be thereabouts for John Gosden judged on breeding alone.

At Ludlow Kilbree Kid can continue his recent winning streak in the Betfair Price Rush Handicap Chase while at Towcester David Pipe's Chic Theatre looks the one to be on in the Toast To Mick And Sheila White Handicap Hurdle.
