Terrakova storms to Saint-Cloud success
Just 24 hours after the retirement of Solow, Freddy Head looks to have another exciting horse on his hands as Terrakova maintained her unbeaten record in the Prix Cleopatre at Saint-Cloud.
You would have to travel a long way to find a better-bred filly than the three-year-old, who is by Galileo and out of a top-class racemare in Goldikova.
Having won her only start as a juvenile, Terrakova reappeared in a Group Three over 10 furlongs but looked in trouble two furlongs out as Maxime Guyon was caught in a pocket.
However, when the gap appeared she quickened up smartly against the rail and travelled the strongest towards the finish to beat Panthelia by three-quarters of a length.
Terre, a full-sister to Treve, was very disappointing and finished last.Owned, like Goldikova and Solow, by the Wertheimer brothers, she will now head for the French Oaks, the Prix de Diane."There is always a bit of pressure when you have a horse like her," said Pierre-Yves Bureau, racing manager to the owners."We've always liked her but she has just taken time to come to hand this year."Freddy must take a lot of credit, he didn't rush her when he could have done given her breeding."She looked very nice when she won last year and we're obviously very happy she's done that."She's regally bred and so far she's living up to it."It will be the Prix de Diane next, all being equal, and she looks exciting."It wasn't an easy race – she had some trouble – but she ended up winning easy."While we're happy to stay at 10 furlongs for the Diane, it also looks like she will stay further later in the year."Later on the card, Luca Cumani's Rosental finished fourth behind the Andre Fabre-trained Armande in the Group Two Prix Corrida.Charlie Appleby's D'bai was second in the Listed race over a mile behind Fabre's Trais Fluors when he attempted to concede 4lb to the winner.
