The Dutchman goes to Kelso

Sandy Thomson will follow a tried and tested path with The Dutchman who will contest the Paris Pike Novices' Chase at Kelso on December 4.

Sandy Thomson, trainer of Seeyouatmidnight and The Dutchman.

Thomson won the race with Seeyouatmidnight last year and has picked out the £16,000 contest for his promising six-year-old.

The Dutchman won on his chasing debut at Wetherby recently, beating well fancied rivals sent north by Dan Skelton and Warren Greatrex in Blue Heron and Ma Du Fou respectively.

Having finished second to Le Prezien in the Premier Hurdle at Kelso last season, it was no surprise to Thomson that he was able to win.

"I think we'll go to the Paris Pike, given we won it last year," said Thomson.

"He jumped very well at Wetherby but is a different type to Seeyou – he's almost classier.

"They fancied the two southern horses so it was nice he could beat them but not a surprise. He was a very good hurdler but he had his problems.

"Brian (Hughes) said he just blew up between the third and second-last, otherwise he'd have won easier."
