The Gurkha’s career hangs in the balance
Two-time Group One winner The Gurkha is uncertain to make it back to the racecourse after the Aidan O’Brien inmate underwent surgery to treat a displaced colon on Friday.
The Gurkha was unraced as a two-year-old but has proven hugely progressive since making his debut in April.
The son of Galileo won the Poule d'Essai des Poulains at Deauville in May in his first race in Group One company.
He went on to fill the runner-up berth in both the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown before regaining the winning thread in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.
The Gurkha, who held entries in the Champions Stakes races on both side of the Irish Sea and in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Scot, is remaining at Fethard Equine Hospital in Tipperary as he recovers from the procedure.
