The National Hunt Notebook

Attention is increasingly turning to the jumps season and our team have been adding their eyecatchers to the NH Notebook.

Robin Roe (left) impressed but one of those in behind made the Notebook…..

The Flat runners have slowly been edged out of the Notebook over the last month or so and the list now comprises a selection of the jumpers that have caught the eye so far.

Two of them have run already and Apasionado (4/1) got the season off to a winning start when scoring on his hurdling debut at Uttoxeter (click here to watch the replay).

The form of his bumper win at Market Rasen that caught our eye received a boost yesterday when the third home, Loud And Clear, won at Ayr where the second home Donna's Delight impressed sufficiently to be added to the Notebook.

The form of the Uttoxeter race has yet to be tested but trainer Stuart Edmunds is hopeful of further success and already has the valuable EBF Hurdle Final at Sandown in March as Apasionado's primary target. He may well be able to win again before then but will reportedly be kept away from winter ground (assuming we get some) and so it makes sense to remove him from the Notebook with the job done.

The run of Cottersrock (3/1) at Cheltenham was too bad to be true. He met favourite Tiger Roll on 12lb worse terms than he would have done in a handicap but was clearly fancied to shake the market leader up on his second start over fences but finished tailed off and it would be no surprise if something came to light to excuse the performance.

We'll be providing updates on the progress of the Notebook horses through the season while the list is available via the links on this page and the link in the left-hand menu on the racing page.
