The New One poised for Christmas cracker

The New One looks set for a third crack at Kempton's Christmas Hurdle following his all-the-way win at Cheltenham.

The New One: Set to run at Kempton

The eight-year-old finished second in the Boxing Day contest in 2013 and 2015 and trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies will consider the race again for his stable stalwart.

The New One was supposed to be going novice chasing this season, but that has been put on hold and the Champion Hurdle is now the long-term target after he won the International Hurdle for a third time.

"He's 100 per cent, no bothers. It was a very good display on Saturday," said Twiston-Davies.

"We're definitely going to have a look at the Christmas Hurdle."

The Naunton trainer also sent out Wholestone to win the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle on Saturday.

The five-year-old is being aimed at the race of the same name at the Festival and is likely to have one more run before then.

"Wholestone is good. We're thinking of giving him one run before the Festival, but I don't know where yet," said Twiston-Davies.

"We'll find one somewhere with not too many penalties."
