THE NEW ONE is set to make his chasing debut on Friday at Exeter, which must pass an 8am inspection.

Nigel Twiston-Davies has opted for the Harry Dutfield Memorial Novices' Chase over 2m 3f as the starting point for the eight-year-old, a winner of two Grade 1s over hurdles.

The trainer said: "If the meeting is on, he will run. He has schooled really well and we are pleased with everything he has been doing at home. I suppose it's the day of reckoning as it's his first run over fences. But we're looking forward to it."

The New One has the option of Saturday's Henry VIII Novices' Chase at Sandown on Saturday if Exeter is called off.

But officials at the Devon track are confident racing will take place with the temperature forecast to drop to only -1C on Thursday night before rising to 5C on Friday.

Clerk of the course Barry Johnson said: "If the forecast is right we should be fine."
