THE NEW ONE has had his chasing debut delayed after trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies said his stable star would need some extra time to recover from an injection to his joint.
Connections revealed earlier this year that the eight-year-old would be tried over fences after regularly bumping heads with the top two mile hurdlers over the past four seasons.
Owned by Sarah Such and Gino Paletta, The New One had been pencilled in to jump fences for the first time in public at either Ascot or Haydock on Friday.
However, Twiston-Davies said on Thursday: "He's fine. We had given him a joint injection and it wouldn't have cleared in time. He needs another week."
The New One has been one of the outstanding performers over hurdles in Britain since 2012 with his wins including the Grade 1 Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and the Grade 1 Aintree Hurdle. He has also been third, fifth and fourth in the last three runnings of the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham.
