Through The Card: Ayr, Friday April 21

14:10 – BURBANK (4) looks short enough for purposes here, but does set the standard on his fourth in the Neptune at the Festival last time. He wouldn't be the first horse to run a flat race post-Festival, however, and therefore it is also worth including SOME INVITATION (3), who showed improved form to win at last time and should have more to offer given his profile.

14:40 – Azzuri has a tendency to pull, and though a stronger-run affair could suit him here (courtesy of Fairlee Grey) he has yet to build on his good second in the Adonis last season. GREAT FIGHTER (6) caught the eye in a listed handicap on his last start over hurdles (traveled well before being beaten by superior rivals), and is of interest now down in grade.

15:15 – Jon Mackie is in excellent form at present and JUST MILLY (8) looks a good option, having been narrowly denied in a novice at last time. She is bred to improve for this trip, and is open to further improvement on her handicap debut. WINNING TRY (5) has had a light season and should also improve for the step up to three miles, especially given how he stayed on to win over two and a half miles at last time.

15:50 – An interesting race. TWO TAFFS (3) doesn't have the best win/run ratio but has a couple of really solid placed efforts over fences this season, including at the Festival last time. The other one to include could be WARRIOR'S TALE (2), who has looked a different horse since being fitted with a tongue tie, winning his last two, including a race at last time which is working out well.

16:20 – The drop back in trip is perhaps a slight concern for NOMOREBLACKJACK (5) given he improved for the step up to two and a half miles, but he is still the most progressive and interesting horse in this lineup, and is taken to land a hat-trick.

16:50 – Competitive stuff. TIMEFORWEST (8) faces a deeper field here than when she won at last time (landing a three-timer) and is up in the weights, but she is thriving at present and progressing well. RONS DREAM (1) won this race last season from 5 lb lower in the weights and has presumably had this as her target again. A tough and likable sort, she should run her race and has strong place claims.

17:25 – A tricky end to the card. Beer Goggles is well bred and has progressed well for his new yard this season, running his best race when winning at last time. He could have more to offer yet given his profile and is a good option in a competitive affair.

Win back Beer Goggles in the 17:25 at Ayr

Placepot permutation:

14:10 – 3, 4
14:40 – 6
15:15 – 5, 8
15:50 – 2, 3
16:20 – 5
16:50 – 1, 8
