Through The Card: Ludlow, Sunday May 14
14:00 – AZZURI (1) was a dominant winner of his most recent outing at Huntingdon and looks to have been found an excellent opportunity to follow up here. Enola Gay was disappointing on his British debut in December, but looks a clear second best on his French form.
14:30 – OZZY THOMAS (3) has been in good form over hurdles and can make a successful return to chasing in this second leg of the Placepot. Rouge Devils arrives on the back of a couple of cracking runs over hurdles this spring and may prove next best.
15:00 – BEAU DU BRIZAIS (1) produced a career-best effort to resume winning ways at Taunton last month and remains potentially very well-treated from just 4 lb higher in the weights here. Indeed, the way he finished last time suggests the return to this longer trip will see him in an even better light and, while there are plenty of dangers in a competitive heat, Beau du Brizais is taken to build on the promise of that latest effort and makes most appeal with the Placepot in mind.
15:30 – HESTINA (6) showed improved form when making a successful handicap debut at Huntingdon four weeks ago and appeared to have far more in hand than the official winning margin would suggest. She has a 7 lb hike in the weights to contend with here, but remains with potential after just five starts in this discipline and is taken to continue jockey Harry Skelton's fine form of recent weeks (11 winners from his last 28 rides).
16:00 – NICOLAS CHAUVIN (4) made a winning return from a break at a similar time last year and gets the nod for the in-form Nicky Henderson (five winners from his last 13 runners). There are plenty of possible big dangers in a tricky little contest, however, headed by three-time C&D winner Noche de Reyes, Fair Loch and Thankyou Very Much.
16:30 – MONKEY PUZZLE (3) showed plenty of ability when second on his hurdling bow at Doncaster in December and is fancied to go one better, with this longer trip expected to suit. Take To Heart shaped as if in need of the experience when down the field on his hurdling debut at Ascot and can give the selection most to do if building on that effort.
17:00 – TELL IT TO ME (12) is a half-sister to a bumper winner and makes most appeal for the champion trainer. Ourville's Million and Dandy Dan are other likely types in a contest where the market should provide more clues.
