Through The Card: Thirsk, Tuesday August 9
14:00 – A tricky starter, with Good Time Ahead narrowly setting the standard but having changed stables since his last run 10 days ago. He promises to be suited by the step up to seven furlongs, whereas Stevie Brown ran over this trip on his debut (shaped with some promise) three weeks ago but isn't really bred for it. Money for newcomer Society Red, seemingly the pick of the two Richard Fahey (used to train Good Time Ahead) runners, would look significant.
14:30 – Tschierschen sets a high standard for a Thirsk maiden following her close second on her debut at Windsor, when she pulled clear of the rest. She wears a hood, which raises slight questions over backing her at odds-on, but she did cost €280,000 as a yearling and couldn't be in better hands, so should be hard to beat. Vaulted shaped well in a race won by the promising Eaton Square at Nottingham on her debut and looks Tschierschen's biggest danger, ahead of Coping Stone who also showed ability on her first start, albeit in an ordinary event.
15:00 – A competitive handicap of the face of it, but Dark Wonder caught the eye when beaten only by subsequent winner Robero on his return/debut for the Ivan Furtado yard at this track two months ago and makes plenty of appeal. Whitkirk could be his biggest danger, as he won well on his penultimate start and had little chance the way things developed (drawn wide) when trying to follow up. Midlight completes the shortlist.
15:30 – An even bigger field than the previous race. Musharrif looks likely to get another strong pace to aim at with Lydia's Place, Tikthebox, Captain Dunne and Richter Scale in the field, and he could follow up his Nottingham win. Seamster is in a tremendous run of form and is respected, while Money Team could show more this time given he'd been off four months before his last run.
16:00 – This race revolves around the unexposed four-year-old Walpole, who could be a horse to follow in the coming months having run well in a hot York handicap at the Dante meeting when bidding to make it four wins in a row (won a bumper on his debut). He's justifiably odds-on. Tamayuz Magic ran a screamer at Carlisle last time and is respected, while Min Alemarat should appreciate the drop in class from a reduced mark.
16:30 – Desire needs forgiving a lesser effort on her most recent outing, yet the sterner headgear (visor) along with a return to quicker conditions are valid reasons to grant her another chance, and she gets the nod from a reduced mark. Courier got the job done in good style at Carlisle recently and is feared most, with White Flag also considered.
17:00 – Tribesman was beaten only by subsequent winner Sugar Town off this mark at Redcar a fortnight ago and can end his losing run, which stretches back to his two-year-old debut in April 2015. Sir Geoffrey and Thornaby Princess are others to consider.
17:35 – Recent winning form is in short supply in the second division of this six-furlong handicap, so A J Cook may be the way to go for all he wouldn't be an obvious one to string together back-to-back victories. Secret City and Teetotal are another couple of mercurial sorts but make more appeal than most.
