Through The Card: Wolverhampton, Tuesday August 15
18:00 – MAY ROSE (1) produced her best effort to date with a smooth success over 5f at Windsor last time and looks capable of better still based on her flashy pedigree now upped in trip under a 6 lb penalty. She is preferred to the hat-trick seeking Jumeirah Star, who could well follow her home.
18:30 – This is not as competitive as the Goodwood maiden that SUFFRAGETTE CITY (9) finished fourth in last time (form working out well, with the fifth and the seventh winning since) and she could get off the mark at the fourth attempt if building on that run there today. MISS LAILA (6) shaped well on debut at Windsor last time, being the only one able to match the winner's injection of pace at around halfway before tiring, and she is also worth including for the Placepot.
19:00 – Hard to get away from BRYGHT BOY (6) here, who has shaped well on both of his last two starts, finishing third at Lingfield after meeting trouble/challenging from further back than the two that beat him, before a good second at Sandown last time, where he fared best of those that race prominently. From a good draw, his rider Thomas Brown may well go forward in a race lacking obvious pace, and he could be hard to peg back.
19:30 – Mayasa was seen to good effect from the front over C&D last time, getting first run on the pair that chased her home, and she may find BLENHEIM WARRIOR (6) too strong today, now upped 5 lb in the weights. Blenheim Warrior shaped best at the weights at Ffos Las last time over a mile and three-quarters, idling in front after being given an overly aggressive ride. The one that beat him that day, Urban Space, has followed up since, and he can return to winning ways now dropped in trip here.
20:00 – SIDE HILL (6) comes from a successful family and is the clear pick on form here after two promising runs at Newmarket (fourth) and Newbury (second) last time. She should progress again on her third start and can break her duck today in an event where several in the field look fairly limited. DAME JUDI (1) was perhaps unsuited by testing conditions last time at Windsor, but comes into the reckoning on her previous two runs.
20:30 – JUMPING JACK (1) progressed again last time at Kempton despite not being able to follow up from his success on handicap debut under a 6 lb penalty. He is now up another 2 lb in the weights, but he is still well clear of this field on Timeform ratings after posting an eye-catching closing sectional last time, and should return to winning ways now upped in trip.
21:00 – King Oswold took advantage of a falling mark here last time, and with the step up in trip a potential source of further improvement (he was strong at the finish that day) he looks the one to beat. Spinning Pearl ran well when second last time, and may provide the biggest danger with the potential for an easy time of things up front from a low draw.
