Thunder storms home in Guineas

Thunder Snow showed his rivals a clean pair of heels as he stormed to victory in the UAE 2000 Guineas at Meydan.

The Saeed bin Suroor-trained colt was among the leading juveniles in Europe last year, finishing second in both the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood and the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster before having to settle for fourth behind Churchill in the Dewhurst.

He rounded off his 2016 campaign with victory in the Group One Criterium International at Saint-Cloud last October and he was quickly off the mark on his 2017 debut.

Partnered by Christophe Soumillon, Thunder Snow assumed control at the top of the straight and soon accelerated clear, galloping all the way to the line to see off Bee Jersey in style by five and three-quarter lengths.

Another Godolphin runner, Capezzano, stuck on for third.

"When I went down to the start he had a lovely action," Soumillon told www.dubairacingclub.com.

"It was a great feeling and [once the race started] I was never in doubt. He has a good mind and was getting out if it very easy.

"I knew he was better than rest and he is pure quality. I was always travelling very easily and without the kickback it was very easy."

Soumillon suggested that he could go straight to the UAE Derby without another run but added: "I'm not the boss!

"I think he can win some big races in Europe after the Derby."
