Timeform Irish SmartPlays: Saturday August 6
William du Berlais – Kilbeggan 17:25
William du Berlais shaped well when second on his most recent outing over this C&D, looking the likeliest winner as the field turned into the straight and simply finding a more battle-hardened rival too strong on the day. That form gives him something to find on Timeform ratings, but he gave the impression he was up to winning a race of this nature and – open to more improvement after just two starts in this sphere – William du Berlais is fancied to confirm the promise of that latest outing with a defeat of Tajseer.
Hard To Call – Kilbeggan 19:30
Hard To Call made an encouraging start to his chasing career when second at Roscommon in June and that effort represented an improvement on anything he had shown in four starts over hurdles. The winner boosted the form and established himself as a useful chasing prospect when following up at Killarney recently and – 2 lb clear of his nearest rival on Timeform ratings – Hard To Call is expected to show the benefit of that initial experience over fences and can see off the attentions of last-time-out faller Full Cry.
Heron Heights – Kilbeggan 20:00
Heron Heights showed improved form when successful on his most recent outing at Limerick, taking advantage of an easier opportunity than when previously fourth at this venue and giving the impression there could yet be more to come from him in this sphere. That form already gives him the edge over Le Grand Chene on Timeform ratings and, although that rival has experience on his side, Heron Heights doesn't look too harshly treated on his handicap debut and is taken to continue his fine start to life over fences.
