Timeform Shortlist: Ascot, Saturday August 6
1.15 Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Dash Stakes (Handicap) (2) 5f
Timeform Top Rated:
116 2. OUT DO David O'Meara Pierre-Charles Boudot
115 8. IN SALUTEM K. J. Condon Thierry Jarnet
114 11. STEPPER POINT William Muir Reserve
The last time Out Do contested a handicap he tasted success in an ultra-competitive event at York in May 2015, and from only 1 lb higher, he appeals as the pick of the weights following a promising run in minor company last week. Course-specialist Medicean Man will have his supporters with Dettori in the saddle, while In Salutem is a bang in-form Irish raider.
1.45 Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Stayers (Handicap) (2) 2m
The fact Sea of Heaven idled when hitting the front in a C&D contest recently masked his superiority on the day, so a 4 lb rise for that success may underestimate him. Notarised returned to form at Goodwood and has the bonus of his regular rider, so he is feared most, with Two Jabs unexposed over 2m and another to consider.
2.20 Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Challenge (Handicap) (3) 1½m
Duretto has 2 wins and a second to his name from 3 runs over C&D and is taken to bounce straight back from a rare below-par run in the Old Newton Cup. Plutocracy is closely matched with the selection on C&D form in May and could go close if taking to blinkers. The unexposed Great Glen completes the shortlist in what looks a very open heat.
2.55 Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Mile (Handicap) (2) 1m
It might be worth forgiving Early Morning his latest run at York (started slowly) and he's fairly treated under Hayley Turner if recapturing the form he showed when successful on his reappearance in the spring. George Cinq needs things to drop right to get his head in front but certainly arrives at the top of his game, while Highland Colori went close to snapping his losing run last time.
3.30 Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Classic (Handicap) (3) 1½m
The return to a longer trip should be in the favour of Combative who performed with credit in an 11f Glorious Goodwood handicap last week and gets the vote under Silvestre De Sousa. White Shaheen, Real Dominion and Against The Odds are others to consider in what looks another very competitive handicap on the card.
4.05 Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Sprint (Handicap) (2) 6f
Muhadathat shaped very well when powering home from an unpromising position at Goodwood last week and can build on that and strike under Emma-Jayne Wilson. Flying Pursuit has a solid record this year and should go well again, while Andrew Balding's Sunflower can't have been right on her reappearance and remains with potential.
