Timeform UK SmartPlays: Saturday August 13
Projection – Newmarket 15:20
Projection fared better than the bare result when fifth at Goodwood two weeks ago, facing a difficult task from stall 22 in a race where those drawn in single figures filled eight of the first eleven places, and suffering interference when attempting to deliver his challenge in the final two furlongs. He came home well enough once in the clear to suggest he would have been in the mix with a better passage through the race and – open to more improvement after just seven starts in his short career to date – Projection is expected to confirm the promise of that outing with a defeat of the similarly unexposed Udontdodou, who is far better than he was able to show at York last time.
Orion's Bow – Ripon 15:55
Orion's Bow completed the five-timer with a dominant success at Hamilton last month and wasn't disgraced when attempting to extend his winning sequence in the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood two weeks ago. Indeed, he showed form good enough that day to suggest he is worth a try in pattern company before the end of the season, travelling strongly into contention as the field entered the final two furlongs and simply finding an improving three-year-old two classy on the day. The thriving Intisaab is an obvious danger, but he has 2 lb to find with Dandy Nicholls' charge on Timeform ratings and Orion's Bow is taken to regain the winning thread in Ripon's feature race.
Home of The Brave – Newbury 16:10
Home of The Brave wasn't seen to best effect when second roup 2 Lennox Stakes at Goodwood last time, forced to concede his customary position at the head of affairs and unable to hold off the challenge of a rival with a superior turn of foot in the final furlong. There is a possibility he could get a far easier time of things on the front end here and, with no obvious reason why Convey should reverse the placings from their meeting in the Group 3 Timeform Jury Stakes at Haydock, Home of The Brave is fancied to make the breakthrough at Group 2 level and can give trainer Hugo Palmer a boost ahead of Galileo Gold's Group 1 assignment on Sunday.Read More at betfair.com
