SPOOF progressed from his debut when second at Windsor last week and a win at the third time of asking looks on the cards. Charles Hills' colt was a little unruly before the start there but still ran well from his poor draw and, better, berthed today, he can oblige. Richard Fahey's pair Reinbeau Prince and The Right Choice are both respected on debut, while Lord Riddiford could build on his promising start at Pontefract where he was sent off at 16/1.
Gerry the Glover and Eternal are both capable of better, however DETACHMENT was a big eye-catcher here a fortnight ago and looks a winner waiting to happen for Les Eyre. The French recruit travelled better than most and was going well when badly hampered over a furlong out, not given a hard time with after, and the handicapper has kindly dropped him 2 lb for that effort.
The Roger Fell-trained AMERICAN CRAFTSMAN was arguably unlucky not to finish a shade closer on handicap debut at Redcar earlier this month and shapes as though well worth a crack at this trip. If the extra yardage does help unlock some improvement, this half-brother to a 1½m winner could be the answer. Miss Bates is another who may benefit from going up in distance and she is feared most.
